Moving in a fixed range of motion, the machine allows you to isolate and focus right in on the middle back muscles. Squeeze at the top, and slowly down. Don't lock the arms out at the bottom of the movement - keep tension in the muscles the whole time. Different grips on the machine allow you to target muscles in different ways. Some machines also allow you to twist as you come up.
